Biography

"It is a rare combination for a teacher to also be an outstanding performer. Buchan possesses both gifts in abundance..." - Maestro Tedd Joselson

Buchan is credited with building a galaxy of young "stars" that illuminate the Singapore music scene with their light.

The cofounder of the School of Piano Performance and its Administrator and Principal from 2004 – 2007, Buchan is a bright and enlightened musician with a stellar record, a rare gem in a field like music. She is a Gifted Education Program graduate, Stanford University graduate with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and Gold medallist in the International Chemistry Olympiad.

For the past 4 years, Buchan has been studying under one of the most gifted and famous pianists living in Southeast Asia, Tedd Joselson, who traces his musical heritage to Horowitz, Curzon, etc. He advises and counsels her, and is always at hand for any musical problem. However, more than that, she herself has an exceptional flair for performing, her performances resplendent with the great traditions of piano playing, including the Russian, French, German and American styles – all taxing on the intellect and shining with musical conviction. Buchan has given well-received recitals in California, before making her debut performance in Singapore at the Allicance Francais in 2004, from which she launched her teaching and performing career.

Buchan’s passion for teaching also puts her on the map as a rising star in music education – young and dynamic, and at the beginning of a career in building future stars. Tedd Joselson’s constant mentorship has allowed her to develop the best form of teaching, and he is ever available for consultation in her teaching career. She has coached over 70 students personally and supervised the coaching of over 120 students, from 7-year olds who play Beethoven sonatas to teenagers who have gained admission to music institutions.

Buchan is the teaching assistant of Tedd Joselson, and 8th May 2008 marks the end of the 4th year of her teaching.
